Frequently Asked Questions

This page answers questions about insurance, confidentiality, location and hours, etc. If you would like to see my rates, they are listed by the desired length of session. My rates page also includes information for applying for Victims of Crime and using a Health Savings Account.

Have any questions that aren’t listed here? Reach out to me, and I will answer questions personally!

Do I have to identify as LGBTQ+ to receive mental health services at Prism?

Absolutely not! I am in the business of helping people regardless of sexual orientation. Please respect and understand my practice provides a safe, LGBTQ+ affirmative space and all clients are expected to behave accordingly.

Do you take insurance?

Typically, I prefer not to take insurance. Insurance payout is generally 4-6 weeks out from the date of service when a claim is submitted. There are arbitrary denials of claims that either I pay for or you do, and in the end someone besides insurance foots the bill. I can provide you with a Superbill (detailed receipt) to submit to your insurance company after you pay my full fee out of pocket. Most policies with out of network benefits will partially or entirely reimburse you depending on the plan.

If you are Victims of Crime recipient, I can accept this as a funding source with an approved application. Please contact me prior to our first meeting so we can verify benefits. For more information, go the the Clark County VOCP site.

I need a letter for gender-affirming surgery, can I get one here?

The answer is mostly yes. Allow me to elaborate. I provide necessary documentation for gender-affirming surgery based on WPATH Standards of Care. Without having a face to face or virtual meeting to complete an evaluation (1-3 sessions for this type of evaluation), I cannot provide documentation for gender-affirming surgery. In a nutshell, I need to be able to document your gender dysphoria in accordance with WPATH Standards of Care before signing off. This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to commit to ongoing treatment, but I will include that recommendation at the end of the evaluation if it is appropriate.

My partner had an affair. Will couple’s counseling save my relationship?

This largely depends on the effort of both partners in the relationship. Repairing broken trust after an affair is a long road that will require solid effort on both of your parts. The good news is that it IS possible to build a stronger relationship than the one you had prior to the affair.

How long does it take to “get over” an affair?

This is impossible to say for sure even with couple’s counseling. The fact of the matter is that trust has been broken in a very serious way. There is no guarantee that a couple can repair the damage caused by an affair because it depends so much on the effort of each partner and a variety of other factors that are difficult to predict.

What is confidential?

I am bound by the NASW Code of Ethics to keep everything we discuss confidential. Mandatory reporting laws make exception to this rule in three specific situations:

1)
If you pose a safety risk of imminent physical harm to yourself or to another person.

2)
There is reason to suspect abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or disabled person.

3)
If a judge signs a court order.

With all that in mind, other than these situations, all I say to comply with HIPAA and protect your PHI is “I can not confirm or deny that (client) is a client of mine receiving services.” Of course, you are welcome to sign a release of information to allow access to your records or a portion of your records to whomever you choose. You also decide the length of time the release is valid.

Where are you located?

My office is at the Plaza Suites next to Dee for Dentist at 8760 S Maryland Parkway Suite 121, Las Vegas, Nevada 89123. Major cross streets are Pebble and Maryland Parkway.
